Introduction: The film I
have chosen is the Godfather, a film about gangs, violence and organized crime.
The film was made in 1972 so it is quite an old film. The setting of the film
is in a busy city full of people and it also is in a quiet country side in
Italy were most of the characters come from. The film was directed by Francis
Ford Coppola and produced by Albert S. Ruddy. The film is rated a 15 due to its
use of guns, violence, drug use and sexual scenes. I think the target audience
for the film are from teenagers to older men and it is aimed at them because of
the violence and crime.
Genre analysis:
The genre of the film was a thriller and a drama
combined. It was a thriller because it gave viewers suspense, excitement,
surprise and anticipation. The film also showed how a normal guy had to take on
all these roles to become the next mob boss and try to strike the same fear as
his father did. The film is also a drama because it has realistic characters
and the film shows how the characters have realistic emotional struggles. The
other Genre is one of the main ones and it is the genre of crime. In the crime
genre it falls under the section of gangster because the movie is about
organised crime and lots of illegal activities.it is also based between the
30’s and 60’s which is when most gangster movies are set.
Content analysis:
The content of the film contains violence, drugs,
crime and sex. A lot of films are very dependent on having very good content
otherwise it won’t be very attention grabbing and people can find it boring.
This film displays these in a very real way and it represents what life was
like for a mob boss back then. When the violence was displayed or talked about
in the film it wasn’t too gory or blood being everywhere it was more realistic.
When the gangsters talked about killing someone the only reason they had was to
profit their gang and make it more money compared to today’s gangs. In the film
because they are Italian some of them spoke Italian at random points and there
were no subtitles but you could kind of guessed what they were saying because
of the scene and events happening when they said it. In the movie there was not
a massive use of music but at the start there was a constant song going on in
the background. Sometimes there were bits of music used to add tension or to
make it more dramatic. There were a few special effects in the film but no
computerised effects or CGI it was all practical effects like fake blood, blank
rounds in guns etc.
Conclusion:
In conclusion i think that the film is entertaining
and keeps your attention even in the quiet and slow moments. The films use of
practical effects was good and made the film look and feel more real compared
to other films, I also liked how they used practical effects since other films
released in the same decade were using CGI like star wars and star trek but
those films had much bigger budgets compared to the godfather which only had
$6-7 million dollars to work with. The film was also accurate as well in the
way how crime families and gangs worked. In my opinion the God Father was a
very good film and for the budget and year it was made it was very well done
and well thought out. The film could have added more intimidating scenes to
show the power that the mob bosses had but apart from that I think the rest of
it is good.
Introduction:
The movie Jason Bourn is a big Hollywood action movie
and it is about one of the deadliest CIA agents and he has gone rouge trying to
find out his past and the CIA want to keep that a secret from him so they send
people out to find and capture him.
Genre analysis:
The genre of the film is action and thriller. It is an
action movie because there is a lot of fighting, violence, gunfights and
explosions. The standard action movie. Also the action side of it keeps a lot
of people attracted and it keeps their attention to the movie. It also attracts
a lot of male attention to the film since a lot of men like these types of
movies. The movie is a thriller because it has scenes that are tense and
suspenseful and keeps the audience guessing and wondering what will happen
next. Also it has silent scenes that lead up to something load and unexpected
to happen which keeps the attention of people.
Content analysis:
The content in the film is a lot of violence in the
film mainly because it is an action film but there is gore in the film which
doesn’t always need to be in an action film so the film may not be for children.
However the film has no sex scene so at the same time it can be okay for some
kids to watch but I would only recommend above 14 could only see it. The movie
also uses special effects created from a computer instead of real life
practical effects. In the movie during the action scenes there is fast paced
and loud music to keep the attention and make the scene more dramatic and more
action packed. The movie is not the most realistic from the content it shows us
like the special effects and how he does stuff that is almost physically
impossible.
Conclusion:
Overall I think the film is a good action film that was
loud and attention grabbing and had lots of action. The story line was shown a
lot in the film and it was hard to forget. The film was also a thriller because
of the suspenseful scenes and the suspenseful music. The content in the film
was not bad but it could use improvements like more real looking and maybe even
some practical effects to make the film a bit more realistic. In the film there
wasn’t too much action or too little there was a comfortable amount.
